FT what?

FTP is an acronym for File Transfer Protocol and is a way of moving files from one computer to another, usually across the internet; but it's just like moving files around on your hard disk.

Rather than send an email struggling with huge attachments like the proverbial asthmatic ant with heavy bags of shopping, send an email with a simple ftp address that the recipient can click, log on to your ftp site and download the files.

If you have a web site hosted by PCDS you can have FTP accounts at no additional cost.

Guide to using FTP

Your FTP access details will be emailed to you when your FTP accounts are initially set up.

You will usually have an Incoming and an Outgoing folder and master access details that will allow you to fully manage the folders.

You will also have secondary access details for your users that will only allow them to put files into the Incoming folder and copy files from the Outgoing folder.

This Guide is yet to be completed, but please email or telephone if you need further help.
